Jose Duarte

Founder 

Blackwood Group LLC

Jose, a lifelong Chicagoan, earned a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology in 1995. He became a Licensed Professional Engineer in 1999 and later obtained a Master of Science in Project Management from Northwestern University. Shifting from engineering to construction management, Jose worked as a project manager in downtown Chicago and managed mid-rise, mixed-use developments from 2001 to 2007.

In 2007, he founded Blackwood Group LLC, overseeing $90M+ in projects for numerous private sector clients. Jose has been actively involved in the community, serving on the Board of the Hispanic American Construction Industry Association and currently as the Board Treasurer for We All Code, a nonprofit offering free computer coding classes to inner-city youth in Chicago.
