Cynthia Marshall

Cynthia Marshall is the chief executive officer of the Dallas Mavericks. In February 2018, Marshall became the first black female CEO in the history of the National Basketball Association. Marshall worked in executive roles at AT&T for 36 years, where she focused on improving diversity and workplace behavior. Prior to her joining the Mavs, Marshall founded Marshalling Resources, a consulting firm specializing in leadership, diversity & inclusion, culture transformation, and overall optimization of people resources. Throughout her career, Marshall has elevated diversity and inclusion at numerous organizations. During her executive roles at Dow Chemical Company and AT&T, both companies were named to Diversity Inc’s Top 50 list.
Widely recognized for her visionary leadership and ability to get things done, Marshall is the recipient of several honors and awards. Marshall was named to Forbes list of 15 of the world’s most inspiring female leaders in 2021 and Adweek’s 30 Most Powerful Women in Sports to name a couple in 2020.
After high school, she got a full ride to the school of her choice, the University of California, Berkley. There, she became one of the school’s first Black cheerleaders, as well as the first black member of her sorority, Delta Gamma. She loves educators. Celebrates them a lot. She gets other to celebrate them not just during Teacher Appreciation Week, but every chance she gets because they reached out to her.
